READ ACROSS AMERICA 2017
“Reading from the Pacific to the Atlantic”
Get ready for the 15th annual Read Across America at Davis Elementary! This annual event is an exciting way to celebrate reading and honor the birthday of Dr. Seuss! The goal for the students to accomplish this year is to read enough books to travel from Savannah, Georgia, all the way to San Diego, California! That is 2,389 miles in length.
Students in Kindergarten and First Grade will count the number of books they read over a 2 week period, using the scale of 3 books = 10 miles. Second through Fifth Graders will track the number of minutes they read, using the scale of 40 minutes = 10 miles. When each child finishes his/her grade level goal, please fill out a coupon, bring it to the media center, and put it in the correct grade level box.
The reading challenge will begin on Monday, February 27th and end on Friday, March 3th, with a birthday party assembly and a pajama parade for Dr. Seuss in on March 3rd!
Get ready to read!!!
This year we will also be celebrating Read Across America with reading, raffle drawings, and fun spirit days. Please help your child embrace their imagination by encouraging them to dress up to the following Dr. Seuss themes for the weeks of our Read Across America celebration.

You will build a castle that he will live on top of that he will use to look over the kingdom. You must use only recycled items to build the tallest tower. Yertle lives at Davis and is 2” tall, 2” wide, and weighs 6 oz. Have fun and good luck!
